Teachers
Marion Quesne & Sylvain Guiheneuc (FRA)
are a dynamic duo! As passionate about social Lindy Hop as they are about performance Lindy Hop, they love to explore all the different ways to express themselves through this dance.
Socially, they particularly like to push the boundaries of leading and following, and create a space where everyone suggests and responds independently of their ‘dance role’. In a more performative context, they are passionate about creating dance routines with which they explore their personal expression.
Sylvain is also a graphic and motion designer. Marion wrote a Masters thesis about the Lindy Hop entitled “Social codes and identity roles in the Lindy Hop: transgressive narratives”. This research work addresses many issues such as cultural appropriation, the need to decolonise this discipline and the central importance of identity construction through dance.
Sylvain & Marion pay particular attention to respecting the African-American origins of the dance, as well as placing the women and men who developed Lindy Hop at the heart of their practice.
Marie N’Daiye & Felix Berghall (FRA/SWE)
will familiarize, challenge and encourage you with their concepts of Lindy Hop…
Marie N’diaye is a choreographer, performer, jazz dance teacher and dance researcher. She specializes in jazz dance (African American Jazz), including the partnership form (Lindy Hop), focusing on the heritage of the Harlem dancers of the Savoy Ballroom as well as the tradition of chorus lines in nightclubs and theaters (such as Apollo Theater, Cotton Club, Connie’s Inn…. ) and applied her scientific method and dance teaching to conduct research based on the embodied practice of jazz dance through the study of original video clips and collaboration with elders and other experienced dancers.
Marie N’diaye has been teaching Lindy Hop since 2007. Working with numerous partners she has taught a variety of styles and tempos, from the embrace of slow drag to the breathtaking speed of fast Lindy Hop!
Marie is the founder of the non-profit organization “Collective Voices for Change”, which aims to promote cultural appreciation and respect for African American jazz dance. She is also a board member of the “Black Lindy Hoppers Fund”, whose mission is to support and promote black dancers and artists in the practice, interpretation and teaching of jazz dances and Lindy Hop in particular.
She completed her Master’s degree in Dance Anthropology & Ethnochoreology in 2023 as part of the international ERASMUS program: “Choreomundus”, which is committed to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage (IKE).
Felix Berghäll is a Swedish, African, American and Vernacular Lindy Hop dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher as well as a DJ and music researcher…
From the first competition in 2001 to performing on the stage of the famous APOLLO Theatre (Harlem, NY) in 2014, Felix’s favorite place is the stage. There is no other place he prefers to be, it’s where he feels most comfortable. He performs almost every weekend, travels around the world for events and has been in everything from small productions to hour-long plays.
For the past five years, he has worked as co-organizer of one of the world’s largest events focusing on Lindy Hop and African-American Vernacular Jazz, Herräng Dance Camp.
Felix has been dancing since the age of eight, initially training and competing in the Swedish dance style Bugg as well as Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie and Double Bugg. All dances derived from Lindy Hop and African-American Vernacular Jazz. He was in love from the beginning and was truly immersed in the music.
Djoutala Seydi (AUT/SEN)
invites you to take a look beyond the swing-dance horizon and embark on a lively journey through the rhythmic heart of West-Africa
DJOUTALA SEYDI comes from Ziguinchor – capital city of the Casamance region. He began dancing in his early childhood. He was a member of the African ballets ‘Woulaba’ from Ziguinchor and ‘Melody’ from Dakar. For the last 11 years he has been the choreographer and artistic director of ‘Doman Doman’, an 18-person dance and drum ensemble. With great intuition and didactic skill Djoutala introduces workshop participants to a very appealling mix of contemporary and traditional African dance.
Djoutala has been living in Vienna / Austria since 2001, and working among others, for:
„Afrikatage“ – Vienna
„Impuls Tanz“ – Vienna
